Fish Rearing
Along with agriculture, fishing is one of the major sources of income here. Therefore, the development of this industry is necessary.
Decline in Fish Catch
Due to natural disasters in recent years, the fish and the fish seeds are washed away from the dam.
Damaged Facilities
The recent storm of June 2020 has damaged fishing boats and floating cages.
Inadequate Resources
Currently only few fishing boats are fully equipped and in good condition.
Lack of Ice Plant
As there is no ice plant available, it is not possible to sell in remote cities despite high price.
Challenges
The Shashwat Model
There are total 19 villages participating in this project. Each village has a collection center.
There all the fish are recorded according to weight and type. A motorboat is sent to collect fish from all the centers.
The main collection center is at Dimbhe. There the fish are sold to a private contractor at wholesale prices
Fishermen are paid every Sunday as per the records kept. Payment is credited directly to the bank account
Co-Operation to Progress
Shashwat arrived at conclusion that there is no solution to these problems without an organization.
With the help of Shashwat the Dimbhe Tribal Co-operative Fishing Society was established in 2005.
